US looses 663000 jobs! unemployment rate at 8.5%! Will this add to the existing state of recession? What should the US Government do to reduce the unemployment?

More and more companies are laying off employees, and this is only snowballing the lack of spending by consumers. We need to find people working and spending again so that we can stabilize the economy.
