According to a recent study, the present Lok Sabha has the unique distinction of having as many as 125 members with criminal backgrounds. Serious charges of murder, rape, kidnapping, extortion and the like are pending against many of them. A media report pegs this number at 139.In July 2008, The Washington Times reported that nearly a fourth of the 540 Indian Parliament members faced criminal charges, "including human trafficking, immigration rackets, embezzlement, rape and even murder".

Are you alright????

It would be totally insane if you are asking this. PPl like that are not to be in matters like that. Simple and i must also say that ppl with criminal background should also be banned from voting too.

I kno we have some ppl like that at present in our govt but there is always time to start new.

Politicians with criminal background should never be considered for elections. I don't understand why this basic thing is not made a rule in India. This is a very much required rule and hope it will be implemented. If it happens atleast 40% of our politicians will not be given tickets to contest for elections. Hope this happen soon.

See the other way, the people in their constituency will be definitely knowing that the particular person is a criminal right? I don't understand why the people vote for them! Ultimately the people are to be blamed.

Why would we want the policies and the regulations to be made by someone with an criminal background? But obviously, we cannot generalize the statement. If someone was termed for something which was proved wrong, then we can't call him as a criminal. Moreover, for a progressing country the leaders need to be educated and aware of the needs and they need to be proactive in their actions. We should have a better criteria of choosing them. If a wrong person is in a post, the person is not to be blamed. It is us. We never stood up for the right reasons and so we don't have a reason to complain later.
